In this painting, I wanted to capture the quiet beauty of State Beach on Vinalhaven, Maine, at low tide, when the receding waters reveal the rich colors and textures of the rocky shoreline.

What particularly attracted me to this scene was the delicate interplay of light and atmosphere. Soft pinks, lavenders, and pale blues drift across the expansive sky, their subtle reflections shimmering on the tranquil water below. Along the shore, the warm earth tones of the exposed tidal flats contrast with the deep greens of the evergreens and the cool, distant horizon.

I have always been fascinated by the changing character of the Maine coast, where the movement of the tides and the shifting light continually transform the landscape. Here, I sought to capture one of those fleeting moments of stillness, when the shoreline seems suspended between sea and sky.

More than simply depicting a particular place, I wanted the painting to evoke the peaceful solitude of Vinalhaven's coastline and the understated beauty of a landscape shaped by the timeless rhythms of the Atlantic.
