In this painting, I wanted to capture the dramatic atmosphere of Paris along the Seine, where the historic Pont Neuf stretches across the river beneath a sky filled with shifting clouds and the changing light of evening.
What particularly attracted me to this scene was the contrast between the warm illumination of the bridge's stone arches and the deep blues and violets of the sky and water. The monumental architecture, softened by the atmospheric light, seems to take on a different character as daylight gradually gives way to evening.
I have always been fascinated by the way the bridges of Paris connect not only the two banks of the Seine, but also the city's present with its remarkable past. Built during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, Pont Neuf is the oldest surviving bridge across the Seine in Paris, and its enduring presence has made it an inseparable part of the city's historic landscape.
Here, I sought to convey not simply the appearance of this celebrated bridge, but also the atmosphere and quiet drama of a fleeting moment when light, architecture, and the river come together in a scene that feels both timeless and distinctly Parisian.
