Early Light — New York City
In this painting, I wanted to capture the quiet atmosphere of a New York City morning, when the first warm sunlight begins to illuminate the rooftops and upper stories of the city's older buildings.
What particularly attracted me to the scene was the contrast between the richly colored brick façades in the foreground and the distant buildings rising into the soft morning light. The architectural details of the older structures, with their ornate cornices, iron railings, and fire escapes, provide an intimate glimpse of the city's character against the larger Manhattan skyline.
A solitary woman standing at an open window introduces a quiet human presence into the scene. Surrounded by the immense architecture of the city, she seems to be enjoying a private moment as the day begins.
I have always been fascinated by the way sunlight transforms the familiar surroundings of New York. Here, I sought to capture that fleeting interval when the city is gradually emerging from shadow, and the warmth of the morning light brings an unexpected sense of tranquility to the urban landscape.
